Neck Deep is a pop punk band formed in April 2012 based in Wrexham, Wales, UK. These guys haven't been around for too long but they have put out a decent amount of material, and all of it is surprisingly dope. This EP is just 2 songs with 2 remixes by Mark Hoppus, but hey, if you're a fan of Neck Deep or, well, Mark Hoppus, then I guess you should give this a listen! Enjoy!
Description:
Explosions in the Sky is a post-rock band from Texas that has been doing the damn thing since the late 90s. The Wilderness I think is their first actual album since 2011 or 2012 that wasn't a soundtrack for a movie and that gets me pretty excited. I'm not saying their OST work isn't good, because I'm sure it is. I just don't listen to them, but I am a fan of The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place, so that's something right? So if you are interested in post-rock instrumental songs then this is absolutely for you. Take yourself on a musical journey, do yourself that favor.
Description:
Cold Heart Days is an emo punk rock band from Caen, France who play some music that you most certainly want to get into as soon as possible. After the guitar driven intro and half way through The West I started hearing where a lot of their influences stem from such as Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker. What I found most interesting while giving their demo a listen was the Rites of Spring vibe I was getting as well, and it was an absolute treat. The 90s aspect is definitely predominant in their debut release but it's modernized to the point where it sounds brand new and like nothing you have ever heard before. I can tell you that the lead singer reminds me of if Polar Bear Club sang Hot Water Music songs, and I can dig that real hard. Unfortunately I couldn't upload the demo to Zippyshare because it is over 200MB (1411kbps) so I will link the bands free download on their Bandcamp page. The sound is super crisp, and the production is literally flawless and it doesn't hurt that the band is phenomenal at what they do. Enjoy!
Description:
Alright, so I noticed a lack of this band on a lot of other blogs that I frequent and for some reason getting a hold of their music is fairly difficult but I ended up getting my hands on all of their studio albums. Hooray! The bad part is it's a mixed batch on quality ranging from 320kbps to 160kbps but I'm honestly not sure if high quality releases of their earlier stuff even exists. But if it does, I would be super stoked if someone sent it to me! I'm also impartial to receiving any of their splits and EP's so send them my way if you have them. Anyway, Karate was a super dope indie rock band that utilized a lot of blues and jazz influences in their songs that I think everyone needs to have and if you don't have them already you should be ashamed. Oh, and a lot of the tracks aren't in the correct place so forgive me, but it's an easy enough fix. Aaaaand some of the tracks aren't properly named, but dammit I'm sorry! Enjoy guys!Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03206450893567160916noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852848470422198592.post-13944796130338092212016-03-16T22:08:00.001-04:002016-03-18T16:39:36.180-04:00Brian Fallon - Painkillers (2016)

I'm just going to get this out there right now, I'm not a fan of the Gaslight Anthem. I mean, yeah, I have The '59 Sound, but I think everyone does. I'm not saying they are bad by any means, they are very good, it's just not my cup of tea. Matter of fact, I'm not even a tea kind of guy, I prefer coffee. Brian Fallon's solo album, Painkillers, is that coffee. I don't know why I enjoy this so much more than anything Gaslight has released, but for me it has more substance and it could have easily been a Gaslight album. I get a lot of blues and country vibes from this as well, nothing overbearing but enough to notice. This was a request and a lot of times the requests don't get filled because I don't personally enjoy the bands requested, and I was expecting the same thing with this. I was wrong, this is a really well done album and I'm glad that it was mentioned in the chat box.
The Jesus Lizard was a noise rock band formed in Texas and based in Chicago that put out one of the greatest albums of the 90s and one of the greatest albums, in my opinion, of all time. Lot's of guitar driven tracks with a lot of slurring and wailing from David Yow who has also recently (within the last couple of years) has put out some solo ambient shit, so check that out too because whatever that man touches turns to fucking gold. Anyway, I think mostly everyone has this already or at least knows of it and has heard it before but if not you absolutely need to check this out.
Yndi Halda is a post-rock band from Canterbury, England. Their name, which in Old Norse means Enjoy Eternal Bliss, which I think perfectly describes listening to one of their EP's. It's not necessarily something that I put on personally to examine all the in's and outs and try to figure out what I specifically like and what I dislike, hell it's not even to sit and sing along with the words. This is something that I put on while I'm working, or anything really. It's the perfect background music, it sounds like it's meant for you to listen to in that moment, at any moment. But hey, that's just my opinion and it's how I choose to enjoy Yndi Halda.
Expire is a hardcore punk band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that consists of ex-members of Take Control, Wholehearted, and Barriers Now Bridges. Typical of a lot of Bridge 9 bands, they play a very fast paced melodic hardcore style of punk rock and these guys do it good. They are putting out a new full length this year so before they release that they decided to put out an album consisting of a lot of their older material from EP's and I assume splits or compilations. Anyway, these dudes rule and you should check this out!
Description:
Run River North, formerly known as Monsters Calling Home, is an indie folk / alternative rock band from California. This is the first release by these guys that I have listened to and it is one of the catchiest alternative rock albums I have listened to in a long time. I mean literally every track is catchy as fuck and it's just a super fun album that really reminds me of old The Killers. Or maybe new The Killers, I don't know I haven't listened to them in awhile. Anyway, this is slightly different than what I usually post but I promise at least some of you will enjoy this like I am.
Description:

Shonen bat is a 3 piece emo band from Malaga, Spain. I had to go back for a second and re-type that because I typed everything in lowercase letters. Thanks a lot, Shonen Bat (which is also supposed to be lower case but I DON'T CARE). Anyway, these guys rule and have been out quality stuff for almost 5 years now and I think they have gone criminally unknown and are too under appreciated. Citing influences such as Karate, The Van Pelt, June of 44, and Owls you can kind of get a grasp on where they are coming from musically. If anything, they pulled their name from Paranoia Agent, so how can you not dig that? Enjoy!
Slingshot Dakota is a two-piece indie-punk band based out of Bethlehem, PA. The lead singer, Carly Comando, has been gracing our ears with her beautifully sung vocals for a couple of years now and I'm super stoked to give this a listen. Their Dreams are Bad is one of my favorite albums and I have been listening to it in the car getting pumped for this release.
So if you are into this kind of stuff, then I suggest trying to go to one of their live shows because they are probably bomb as fuck.
I'll be real here for a second and totally admit that I never listened to these guys before and just kind of downloaded this on a whim. Most websites classify them as pop punk and I'm sure their previous releases have reflected that and I'm going to even assume they resembled The Story So Far and Title Fight. More so Title Fight because TF has experimented and changed their sound from typical pop punk to a more emo vibe and Humblest Pleasures is eerily similar to that. Maybe I'm wrong though, I'll have to check out their other releases. Either way, these are two really chill songs and I suggest checking them out.
He was the first person to send me the link, and I appreciate it. You can check out his blog by clicking the link below! Anyway, Self Defense Family, formerly known as End of a Year has put out their most brooding release ever, under any name previously, with the Superior EP. Seriously, it has a totally different vibe then most of their other stuff, but still very reminiscent of what you fell in love with when End of the Year first came out. Whatever, check it out!
Don't mind the for fans of too much, because the debut album from Milk Teeth titled Vile Child brings you everything from Sonic Youth to, well, Moose Blood! It's essentially what you would hear if a 90's alternative rock band traveled through time and missed the late 90s and 00s and ended up landing here in 2016 with some dope ass punky alternative rock. You can hear some Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins influences in various songs as well, and the dual vocals have always been a soft spot for me. But yeah, I've been waiting to give this a listen and it's truly magnificent.
Description:

Soul Structure is a quaint little emo band out of Nottingham, UK that sort of reminds you of what Snowing might be doing if they didn't stop doing what they were doing. Sometimes you get that End of a Year / Self Defense Family vibe as well. I guess that's accurate enough. I don't need to please you people! I have yet to check out their first release, but after listening to True Love it's almost a guarantee that I'm going to dig it. More or less of the same stuff you would expect from a band of this genre, but I think the appeal is the sort of anthem moments in certain songs and the way the vocals completely separate themselves from the instrumentation. One of the few emo bands that actually wants us to hear the words and brings top notch production along with it. Check it out, let me know what you think.
Since I posted the predecessor to Algernon Cadwallader with Halfway to Holland, I think I should post the band that succeeded them, Business Models. Business Models is made up of members from two of some of my favorite bands around, one obviously being Algernon Cadwallader and the other being the lesser known Ape Up! It's also made up from members of Man Without Plan, but I've honestly never given them (or him?) a listen but I might have to if a member is included in this dope lineup. So if you are interested in hearing what Halfway to Holland might have become over the years, give this a listen.
Mimisiku is a relatively new group only forming in 2014 and easily making big strides in the music world already. In the small emo collective or what have you, Mimisiku's LP, The Thrill of Living is a pretty large topic of conversation so I decided to check it out for myself. The verdict? I don't know, I haven't finished listening to it yet. I'm about 3/4 into the album and so far it's amazing, just pure energetic punky emo that others have said it reminds them of early Alkaline Trio? Sure, I guess. I get more of a Braid vibe, like it sounds like Jimmy Eat World if anything. Anyway, it's really good and catchy shit so check it out. CYLS if you're reading this, I am sorry and will take it down immediately. Just shoot me an email! Also, click the homepage link to buy the album.
Description:
Halfway to Holland is the pop punk band that eventually became Algernon Cadwallader, so if you like Algernon you will probably fuck with this heavy. For some reason it became increasingly difficult to find the discography, since every god damn link was dead except one. But 85mb for some people can be a pain in the ass, and I think a lot of people have the S/T release more than anything so I decided to split it up by release. I don't know the actual dates for the compilation and unreleased tracks, but they were released with the discography so I assume 2006 would be correct. Either way, Halfway to Holland was super chill and you should check them out if you haven't already. For the rest of you that forgot to put them in your itunes or whatever you use? Shame on you, get some nostalgia in your life.Kevinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03206450893567160916noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3852848470422198592.post-62253262232805877992016-02-23T07:15:00.001-05:002016-03-03T16:30:07.300-05:00Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited (1965)

This is an essential screamo album. There really is no beating around the bush with this one, Y is legitimately one of the greatest screamo albums ever released. Don't speak French? Doesn't fucking matter, it's that good! I will never understand how a band this good can just call it quits. I don't care if the drummer murdered your mother, you keep releasing albums dammit. Just download this, you need to. Don't get left behind.
