First off I want to give a big shout out to the other Kevin over at Sophie's Floorboard, a blog in which I'm sure most of you are very familiar. He was the first person to send me the link, and I appreciate it. You can check out his blog by clicking the link below! Anyway, Self Defense Family, formerly known as End of a Year has put out their most brooding release ever, under any name previously, with the Superior EP. Seriously, it has a totally different vibe then most of their other stuff, but still very reminiscent of what you fell in love with when End of the Year first came out. Whatever, check it out!

Milk Teeth - Vile Child (2016)
Genre: Punk / Emo / Alternative
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Moose Blood, Nai Harvest, Hindsights
Track List:
- Brickwork
- Driveway Birthday
- Burger Drop
- Brain Food
- Swear Jar (again)
- Get A Clue
- Moon Wanderer
- Kabuki
- Crows Feet
- Leona
- Cut You Up
- Sunbaby
Description:
Don't mind the for fans of too much, because the debut album from Milk Teeth titled Vile Child brings you everything from Sonic Youth to, well, Moose Blood! It's essentially what you would hear if a 90's alternative rock band traveled through time and missed the late 90s and 00s and ended up landing here in 2016 with some dope ass punky alternative rock. You can hear some Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins influences in various songs as well, and the dual vocals have always been a soft spot for me. But yeah, I've been waiting to give this a listen and it's truly magnificent.

Soul Structure - True Love (2016)
Genre: Post-Hardcore / Emo
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Snowing, Plaids, Dads
Track List:
- Son
- Cruel Matriarch
- Sore Sickness
- Bonnie Broom
- True Love
- Baton Ye Hauld In Yer Paw
- Cooling Board
- Daughter
- Anima Sola
- Shot Once
Description:
Soul Structure is a quaint little emo band out of Nottingham, UK that sort of reminds you of what Snowing might be doing if they didn't stop doing what they were doing. Sometimes you get that End of a Year / Self Defense Family vibe as well. I guess that's accurate enough. I don't need to please you people! I have yet to check out their first release, but after listening to True Love it's almost a guarantee that I'm going to dig it. More or less of the same stuff you would expect from a band of this genre, but I think the appeal is the sort of anthem moments in certain songs and the way the vocals completely separate themselves from the instrumentation. One of the few emo bands that actually wants us to hear the words and brings top notch production along with it. Check it out, let me know what you think.

Business Models - Room (2013)
Genre: Pop Punk / Emo / Punk
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Halfway to Holland, Spraynard, Joyce Manor
Track List:

- The Aptitude
- I'll Have What I'm Having
- When You Walked Off
- Companion Piece

- And Then It Was Now
- Learn A Thing
- Spinnaker
- Shadow Shade
- Clear And Cold
- Very Much Alive
Description:
Since I posted the predecessor to Algernon Cadwallader with Halfway to Holland, I think I should post the band that succeeded them, Business Models. Business Models is made up of members from two of some of my favorite bands around, one obviously being Algernon Cadwallader and the other being the lesser known Ape Up! It's also made up from members of Man Without Plan, but I've honestly never given them (or him?) a listen but I might have to if a member is included in this dope lineup. So if you are interested in hearing what Halfway to Holland might have become over the years, give this a listen.

Description:
Mimisiku is a relatively new group only forming in 2014 and easily making big strides in the music world already. In the small emo collective or what have you, Mimisiku's LP, The Thrill of Living is a pretty large topic of conversation so I decided to check it out for myself. The verdict? I don't know, I haven't finished listening to it yet. I'm about 3/4 into the album and so far it's amazing, just pure energetic punky emo that others have said it reminds them of early Alkaline Trio? Sure, I guess. I get more of a Braid vibe, like it sounds like Jimmy Eat World if anything. Anyway, it's really good and catchy shit so check it out. CYLS if you're reading this, I am sorry and will take it down immediately. Just shoot me an email! Also, click the homepage link to buy the album.

Description:
Halfway to Holland is the pop punk band that eventually became Algernon Cadwallader, so if you like Algernon you will probably fuck with this heavy. For some reason it became increasingly difficult to find the discography, since every god damn link was dead except one. But 85mb for some people can be a pain in the ass, and I think a lot of people have the S/T release more than anything so I decided to split it up by release. I don't know the actual dates for the compilation and unreleased tracks, but they were released with the discography so I assume 2006 would be correct. Either way, Halfway to Holland was super chill and you should check them out if you haven't already. For the rest of you that forgot to put them in your itunes or whatever you use? Shame on you, get some nostalgia in your life.

This is an essential screamo album. There really is no beating around the bush with this one, Y is legitimately one of the greatest screamo albums ever released. Don't speak French? Doesn't fucking matter, it's that good! I will never understand how a band this good can just call it quits. I don't care if the drummer murdered your mother, you keep releasing albums dammit. Just download this, you need to. Don't get left behind.

My Head In Clouds - Discography (2009 - 2012)
Genre: Emo / Screamo
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Merchant Ships, Old Gray, William Bonney
Track List:
Demo! (2009)
- Donut Run
- Hey Arnold
3 Songs (2011)
- Did the Rock Go To Culinary School?
- Mexican Soap Operas
- Theres A Bocephus In My Closet
Unreleased Tracks (2012)
- Dome Talks With Sam Karpp
- Donut Walk
- 260 Gangsta
Description:
First and foremost I don't know the actual release dates of the 3 songs or the unreleased tracks, I just made those up, because (20??) looks weird and I didn't feel like doing that. So if anyone can give me an actual date for the releases that would be awesome. My Head In Clouds was a short lived emo / screamo band that ended and never got the chance of reuniting because of the death of their lead singer, Antonio Rodriguez. I feel like a lot of people missed out on this amazing band, and they are truly a staple in the emo and screamo genre. MHIC will truly be missed. Make sure you check them out.
Midwest Pen Pals - Inside Jokes EP (Remastered) (2014)
Genre: Emo / Screamo / Punk
Website: Myspace
For Fans Of: Algernon Cadwallader, Coping, Street Smart Cyclist
Track List:
- Leaving Songs
- Bobby Markos Posi Talk
- My Castle, Your Castle
- Austin's House
- Because He's There, and He Hates me
- Movies Like Juno
- A Kick Ass Life
Description:
So first and foremost I am a huge fan of MPP, Merchant Ships, William Bonney, and pretty much anything remotely associated and affiliated with these dudes. They always put out the best music. Anyway, this is a leaked remaster of their 2009 EP, Inside Jokes. I guess this was going to be put out, and then it didn't, so someone said fuck it and released it anyway? 1411kbps, whatever that means. Either way, the quality is blatantly better and they even added a new song, A Kick Ass Life. So if you're one of the people that didn't hear about this, like me, get into this now. Also, the d/l file is like 140mb, so, yeah.

Knuckle Puck - Copacetic (2015)
Genre: Pop Punk
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Neck Deep, Real Friends, The Story So Far
Track List:
- Wall to Wall (Depreciation)
- Disdain
- Poison Pen Letter
- Swing
- Ponder
- Evergreen (feat. Dan Lambton)
- True Contrite
- Stationary
- In Your Crosshairs
- Pretense
- Untitled
Description:
Knuckle Puck is a pop punk band from Chicago, Illinois that formed in 2011. Not bringing anything new or special to the genre, but staying true to it is what really has me enjoying their debut LP, Copacetic. I think at this point it's going to be pretty hard to reinvent Pop Punk without sounding like All Time Low, and none of us want that. But what Knuckle Puck lacks in originality they thrive in upbeat, emotionally fueled songs that epitomize jamming out in the summer with your bros. Check 'em out, and support them if you like what they have to offer.

Somos - First Day Back (2016)
Genre: Emo / Pop Punk / Alternative
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Sorority Noise, Free Throw, Moose Blood
Track List:
- Slow Walk to the Graveyard Shift
- Violent Decline
- Thorn in the Side
- Problem Child
- Reminded/Weighed Down
- Days Here Are Long
- Room Full of People
- You Won't Stay
- Alright, I'll Wait
- Bitter Medicine
- Lifted from the Current
Description:
Somos is an alternative pop punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. First Day Back is their sophomore album, and most certainly in the running for album of the year already. Meshing together a 90s emo revival vibe and the instrumentation of waning guitars really draws out the pop punk-esque tunes that were more familiar in the debut album. They've also done splits with other contemporaries such as Sorority Noise and Have Mercy, so you should check those out as well if you dig this. Enjoy!

Julien Baker - Sprained Ankle (2015)
Genre: Indie / Folk / Acoustic
Website: Bandcamp
For Fans Of: Japanese Breakfast, Bon Iver, Daughter
Track List:
- Blacktop
- Sprained Ankle
- Brittle Boned
- Everybody Does
- Good News
- Something
- Rejoice
- Vessels
- Go Home
Description:
I actually got really uncomfortable with not writing something about this album after looking at it for the past hour or so. I'm going to post a video of a live version of Rejoice which is my favorite song from the album. Julien Baker is the epitome of writing sad songs about sad shit and being sad, and also death. She really enjoys writing about death. Or maybe she doesn't enjoy writing about death and it's the only thing she is familiar with. I'm not too sure about that, but what I am sure about is that I missed out on getting one of the 100 pressed white vinyl records, I missed out on her album in it's entirety up until this point and I am vowing right now that I will never miss anything that this woman does ever again. She's just amazing. Watch the video, and the download link will be right below it!
