Description:
In the vain of such bands as early La Dispute with the delicate and atmospheric instrumentals a la Touche Amore, you are bestowed upon you; Other Masquerades. With roots reaching deep into the soil of post-hardcore, you find yourself running further into a wooded area. Desolate and distraught, you have now become lost. Twisting and turning to find an exit, while remaining entranced by the idea of loneliness and the thoughts that accompany it. You notice music beginning to play. "What is that?" you ponder to yourself as the music grows louder and louder, as if it were made for you in this very moment. Smoke rises in the distance, and from every corner of the remaining sky you can see through twisted and dead trees you noticed a shimmering light. This light is travelling faster and faster, hurdling toward you like meteor, if only that were the cause maybe you would be surviving this encounter with such a beautiful disaster. As the object smashes into the ground, the music blaring into your head, you feel a relaxing gust of wind before the skin and muscle melts from your bones. In that moment, before your horrific demise, you enjoyed the greatest moment of bliss you have ever felt. This feeling may be acceptance, or it may be Other Masquerades playing the songs describing your beautiful corpse. I have no idea what any of that means, and I didn't stop to think about where this was going whatsoever. I am so sorry. This EP or album or whatever it may be is very interesting. I can't go out on a limb and say it is anything remarkably new or exciting to the genre, but I can vouch for the fact that you will enjoy listening to it here and there. The haunting instrumentals are really what make me enjoy this more than anything else. Some quality production would legitimately have me foaming at the mouth to hear what they can do instrumentally. If they read this, hey, guys, focus on the instrumental aspect, it's amazing! Now download this shit from their bandcamp.
